Final Defenders 0.24
Final Defenders is now on alpha 24! This version brings a few little neat tweaks, but the most noticeable is the ability to Add CPU allied turrets to fight the battle with you. Right now they're kinda dumber than a sack of hammers, but this has been a huge help in testing. In addition, it allows you to get a glimpse at Final Defenders as it's meant to be enjoyed -- with 3 other turrets frantically blasting away by your side -- even if you're deprived of your couch co-op buddies in this weird situation most of us are in right now.
We also now have all the models for the first of the five enemy factions; Five Worlds Legion "runt of the pack", and your first challenge in the linear campaign... Hanab.
The five basic enemy types will have equivalents from all five enemy fleets. Add in the capital ship and that's a total of 30 ships in the completed game. Right now, the alpha pits you against a mixed force covering all of these classes, but in the full game you could be fighting any combination of these foes.
Kazi (Ingame) - Originally suicide units (hence the name), this smallest class just became a general fighter swarm and will probably be renamed at some point.
Fighter (Ingame) - The Hanab fighter is a slightly tougher but less threatening counterpart to the Formica one you've encountered already. It will eventually fire slow-moving missiles.
Cruiser (Art-complete) - Equivalent to the Xerxes' iconic red triangular ship, the cruiser is a tough middleweight ship that forms the backbone of an invasion.
Bomber (Art-complete) - Unlike the skittish Minerva bombers with their dark raven-like wings, the Hanab Bomber is comparitively stupid and will fly headlong into danger to drop its payload. Fortunately, it is neither especially tough nor agile, but it can cause some serious damage left unchecked.
Heavy Cruiser (Art-complete) - The Hanab answer to the Terran's shuttle-like HC, this ship will be tougher and slower than its equivalents, but with less attacking power.
Capital Ship (Art-complete) - So far we've only seen the Terran battleship with its punishing attacks, but the Hanab big daddy is unarmed. Instead, it will begin spawning smaller Hanab ships so long as it is in the area, swamping your defences with cattle-like bloodymindedness.
