Well here we are, finally; I'm willing to put a lid on Spamfibian for now and call it a done thing. Play here: https://centauri.itch.io/spamfibian

For a games jam, it's much bigger and more fleshed out than I'm used to (thanks in big part to the fixes since the jam ended. If you want to play the original, it's still available). More on the process in a later post, I think. For now, it's enough to say that the game is now playable in a browser, supports controller and has a number of quality-of-life improvements that are small in some ways, but just make it a much more enjoyable experience.

For example, the list of orders can now be seen with the Tab key, with distances to each functioning as a basic map. I finished off the ambitious upgrade system (it took WAAAY more work than I expected, would never have made it into the game in the initial week), so the U key now opens that panel rather than the quick fudge I plugged the gap with (U upgraded cargo space in the first version).

There's lots of little things I like about this, as well as so many ideas I've got for where it might go. I think I'd rather remake it from scratch though; with a coherent art style and such. That said, I had a HUGE amount of fun doing this one. It was a cathartic exercise in letting go of my usual processes and hangups to just see what stuck. But more on that in the coming postmortem!
